The main idea behind the creation of the cluster was to build a strong position for Poland in the sector of dietary supplements, nutraceuticals and biomedical formulations, as well as using domestic, natural raw materials and modern technology for their production.
Key to the operation of the entire consortium are highly innovative technological spin-off companies associated in the cluster, operating on the basis of their own know-how and modern technical solutions. One of the most important values of the cluster is open communication between associated companies from different industries, as well as enabling them to actively cooperate with the academic community, which in turn stimulates competitiveness and entrepreneurship of these companies.
Within its areas of activity, i.e. food processing, production of nutraceuticals and biomedical formulations, and biotechnological processes, the cluster uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, but in order to obtain products of the highest quality as part of these processes, it is necessary to combine modern biomedical technologies with knowledge and experience of specialised entities associated in the cluster. However, the scope of the cluster’s operation is much broader and also includes food preservation methods and the introduction of modern bio-packaging systems.

The NUTRIBIOMED Cluster is a food-biotechnology-biomedical cluster that was created on 13 November 2007 based on a concept developed by Professor Tadeusz Trziszka, D.Eng., of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The establishment of the cluster was undertaken by Wrocław Technology Park (WPT S.A.). Many experts and the management of WPT S.A. were involved during 13 months of works on the concept in question.
The beginnings of the cluster proved to be extremely fruitful – just at the beginning, consortium agreements were signed between 20 entities, which consisted not only of business entities, but also three universities: Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wrocław Medical University and University of Wrocław. Among the enterprises that have joined the cluster, there are manufacturers of raw materials, multi-business companies, as well as Polish pharmaceutical companies, suppliers of equipment and measuring devices.
